PlayStation Plus Essential offers several free games as part of the subscription each month.
Those games can be classic titles or recent games that you may have overlooked. In the past Playstation Plus has offered titles such as A Plague Tale: Innocence, Days Gone or Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Each game is only available for a certain period of time, and if you redeem them before they change, they will be available to download in your library at any time as long as you keep your active Playstation Plus subscription.
These are the games of the month for January 2024 on Playstation Plus Essential:
- A Plague Tale Requiem (PS5)
- Evil West (PS5, PS4)
- Nobody Saves the World (PS5, PS4)
They will be available from Tuesday, January 2 to Monday, February 5.
In addition, we already know what the first free game with PlayStation Plus Essential will be in February 2024 : it is Foamstars, the Splatoon from Square-Enix, which will be exclusive to PlayStation and can be redeemed for free as one of the games of the month.
How to download Playstation Plus games from your PlayStation 5
There are two ways to download Playstation Plus games on your PS5.
The first is through the Library section on your Playstation 5. You can open this section by selecting the Library icon in the right corner of the Playstation home screen.
Here you can see and download all your games. If you press R1 twice you will reach the Playstation Plus tab, where the PS Plus Collection will appear first and, a little further down, links to all the PS Plus games of the month.
The second way is through the Playstation Store.
Open the Playstation Store by selecting its icon from the main menu of your Playstation, in the left corner of the “Games” section.
Once the store loads, press R1 three times to navigate to the “Subscriptions” menu. Here you will find a sign that will tell you the games currently available on Playstation Plus.
Press X on the poster and you will see several icons: the one for the PS Plus Collection and the one for the PS5 and PS4 Games of the Month. Press X on each icon and then click “Add to library” and they will become yours.
How to download Playstation Plus games remotely on PS5
You can also download Playstation Plus games to your PS5 remotely from the Playstation Store website or from the official PlayStation App for iOS and Android.
For them to be downloaded to your PS5 you will have to have Stay Connected to the Internet activated.
To Stay Connected to the Internet first make sure your PS5 is connected to the Playstation Network.
Go to “Settings”, “System” and find “Power Saving”. Click on “Functions available in sleep mode.”
Within “Functions available in rest mode” you have to check the boxes for “Stay connected to the Internet” and “Turn on your PS5 from the network.”
How to download Playstation Plus games from your PlayStation 4
There are two ways to download Playstation Plus games on your PS4.
The first is through the Playstation Plus section on your Playstation 4. You can open this section by selecting the Playstation Plus icon in the top left corner of the Playstation home screen.
Here you can see and download the latest Playstation Plus games. You will also be able to re-download games that you had previously redeemed on Playstation Plus if you had uninstalled them from the console.
The second way is through the Playstation Store.
Open the Playstation Network Store by selecting its icon from the main menu of your Playstation.
Once the store loads, scroll down the left menu until you find “PS Plus.” Here you will find the games currently available on Playstation Plus and download them.
Scroll down the left menu to find ‘PS Plus’.
How to download Playstation Plus games remotely on PS4
You can also download Playstation Plus games to your PS4 remotely from the Playstation Store website or from the official PlayStation App for iOS and Android.
For them to be downloaded to your PS4 you will have to have Automatic Update activated.
To Activate Automatic Update first make sure your PS4 is connected to the Playstation Network.
Go to “Settings” and find “Power saving settings.” Within “Set functions available in Sleep Mode” you have to check the boxes for “Stay connected to the Internet” and “Enable turning on PS4 from the network.”
Check the box next to ‘Enable PS4 power on from network.’ Go back to the main menu “Settings”, “System” and choose “Automatic Downloads”. On this page you have to check the box “Application update files.”

How long can I keep a Playstation Plus game?
If you cancel your Playstation Plus subscription, you will lose access to the games you have downloaded through Playstation Plus.
If you renew your Playstation Plus subscription later, you will regain access to all the games you previously downloaded through Playstation Plus.
