How to cancel Netflix subscription

The cost of living continues to rise, and many of us are faced with the need to rethink our spending. In times of financial restraint, streaming services often become one of the first to be sacrificed. If Netflix’s vast library no longer meets your preferences, it may be time to consider canceling your subscription.

The decision to cancel your Netflix subscription will depend on your financial priorities and entertainment preferences. With rising living costs, it’s understandable to reconsider spending, especially on more expensive streaming services. If the quality of the content no longer meets your expectations, it may be prudent to wait for more attractive productions before renewing your subscription. At the end of the day, the choice is yours, and these simple steps can make it easier to disconnect, allowing you to take back control of your budget.

Steps to cancel Netflix subscription

If you’re thinking about canceling your Netflix subscription, here are five easy steps to do so:

1. Log in to Netflix

To cancel your Netflix subscription, you will need to log into your account via any supported device. This includes a mobile device or internet browser.

2. Click on your profile icon

Selecting the Account option from the Netflix menu

Once logged in, click on your Profile, represented by the icon of your choice, in the top left corner of the Netflix home page.

3. Select the Account option from the menu

There is a drop-down menu on your profile – click on the Account tab in this menu.

4. Click on the “Cancel subscription” button

Clicking the button "Cancel subscription"

The Your Account tab will open a new page similar to the image above, containing all your plan and account information. On the right side of the screen, there will be a button that says ‘Cancel subscription’. Click on it to proceed.

5. Click ‘Complete cancellation’

Selecting the ‘Cancel subscription’ button will take you to the home page as shown in the image above. You will be presented with three options here: Complete cancellation, Pause for a month, or Change your plan (based on your current plan). To cancel your Netflix subscription, you will need to click on the ‘Complete Cancellation’ button.

In the example above, the account holder is currently subscribed to a Standard plan, so we were given the option to switch to a cheaper, ad-supported plan. The other option, Pause for a month, allows you to take a break from the platform, where you can continue browsing the Netflix library and resume at any time.

It’s also worth mentioning that Netflix will keep your viewing history for 10 months after canceling, so if you decide to resubscribe within that period, you won’t have to search for your favorite shows or movies.

6. Confirmation

If you canceled your subscription the day before your new billing cycle, you will automatically be redirected to the Netflix login page once the process is complete. You will also receive a cancellation confirmation email to the email address registered to your account.

However, you will be able to log in and use your Netflix account for the remainder of your monthly billing cycle if you have completed the cancellation process before your next renewal. After this date, however, your account will be canceled.

Should you cancel Netflix?

The decision to cancel Netflix is a personal decision. You need to consider how much money you can save, the type of entertainment you’re looking for, and whether there are other streaming services you can use instead.

If you’re looking for ways to save money, canceling Netflix might be a good option. Netflix is one of the most expensive streaming services, and you can find similar content on other services for less.

If you enjoy watching Netflix original movies and TV shows, you might want to consider keeping your subscription. However, if you’re tired of Netflix’s library, or if you’re finding other ways to watch the content you like, you may want to cancel.

Here are some things to consider when making your decision to cancel Netflix:

  • How much are you willing to spend on streaming services? Netflix is one of the most expensive streaming services, with plans starting at R$25.90 per month. If you’re looking to save money, you might consider a cheaper streaming service like Disney+ (R$27.90 per month) or Amazon Prime Video (R$9.90 per month).
  • How much time do you spend watching Netflix? If you watch Netflix for many hours a day, it may be worth keeping your subscription. However, if you only watch Netflix occasionally, you might not be getting the most for your money.
  • What type of content are you looking for? Netflix offers a wide range of content, but not all of it is high quality. If you’re looking for high-quality shows and movies, you might be disappointed with what Netflix has to offer.

If you decide to cancel your Netflix subscription, you can always reactivate it in the future if you change your mind.
