Redmi 13 vs Redmi 13C: in Xiaomi’s low range, which is the smarter purchase?

-

Xiaomi has just presented the Redmi 13 , a pretty good evolution of the Redmi 12 , although with one detail: it loses the ultra-wide-angle camera. This is quite well compensated by the rest of the specifications, but there will be those who do not like it.

But what happens when you compare the Redmi 13 against the Redmi 13C of the same generation? The common thing is that the Redmi C are inferior to their peers without this tag, although they are also cheaper. However, it is worth wondering if this is also the case this time. This is what we are going to see next when comparing the Redmi 13 vs. Redmi 13C to determine their differences and which mobile is better to buy.

Redmi 13

Just taking a look at both technical sheets is enough to realize that the Redmi 13 is a more complete smartphone than the Redmi 13C . This does not surprise us, since it is mandatory within the series that make life in the Xiaomi catalog . However, how big is that difference? Let’s analyze each section separately:

  • Design : both phones have very similar dimensions and weight, as well as careful styles that we like equally. However, the Redmi 13 takes the lead thanks to its IP53 protection and the elimination of the notch for the central camera.
  • Screen : although both use IPS panels with a frequency of 90 Hz, the Redmi 13 has a higher resolution (Full HD+ vs. HD+) and larger size (6.79” vs. 6.74”).
  • Performance : The new MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra in the Redmi 13 is up to 14% more powerful than the Helio G85 in the Redmi 13C. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s a major improvement when you learn that the G91 is the same G85, but with more polished construction.
  • Storage and RAM : The Redmi 13 is sold in 6 GB + 128 GB and 8 GB + 256 GB versions. The Redmi 13C has these same variants and an extra 4 GB + 128 GB . In all cases the RAM is LPDDR4X and the storage is eMMC 5.1.
  • Software : The Redmi 13 already comes with Android 14 and HypeOS pre-installed , while the 13C gets these features after a major update. Thus, the Redmi 13 remains an improvement.
  • Cameras : The Redmi 13 moves to a huge 108 MP sensor that offers better quality than the 50 MP used in the Redmi 13C. The same happens with the front camera, which is 13 MP on the Redmi 13 and 8 MP on the Redmi 13C. They share the 2 MP sensor on the back, but the Redmi 13 uses it for depth and the 13C for macro. The 13C has a 0.08 MP auxiliary sensor, but it is practically symbolic.
  • Battery : Although the Redmi 13 has a 5030 mAh battery, it is practically the same capacity as its rival (5000 mAh). What it does surpass the Redmi 13C is in the charging power, since it is 33 W vs. 18W.

Redmi 13 and the Redmi 13C, which phone should you buy?

We said it, we demonstrated it and we repeat it in case it is not clear to you: the Redmi 13 is superior to the Redmi 13C in practically everything . However, the Redmi 13C is much cheaper , can it be saved with this and remain a smart purchase? Let’s see it:

  • Redmi 13 : it sells from €199.99 in its base 6 GB + 128 GB version and for €229.99 for the 8 GB + 256 GB version.
  • Redmi 13C : sells from €100 in its base 4 GB + 128 GB version . However, its most complete version (8 GB + 256 GB) is available for €179 and, sometimes, up to €159.

As you will see, the Redmi 13C has a phenomenal price, well below that of the Redmi 13. Thus, although your purchase should aim for the Redmi 13 if you want the best hardware , the Redmi 13C is still a brutal purchase if you are looking for economy.
